Update on Lacey....

I took Lacey to the vet since I wasnt for sure what was wrong and didnt want to second guess culling her. From the exam the vet felt like she dislocated both legs probably that was from a fall where she split her legs. The vet said best thing is to end her suffering because the tendon was torn and without surgery that was never going to fix itself and surgery on a hen isnt a reasonable option so i had the vet is put her down.😭 but atleast i now know there wasn't anything i could do and this needed to happen.
On the bright side she doesn't have anything like mareks that is contagious to my others.
Rip my sweet hen, thanks for being a sweet bird.

Rip robin williams

Broadway's Aladdin Touching Tribute

I met Robin Williams once  a long time ago when he was filming Patch Adams and my sister was at UNC hospitals with leukemia. I ran into him at a coffee shop and he was nothing but kind, funny and genuine person was in the present. Its hard to think that somebody that had so much light & laughter also had such a darkness and depression that lead to such a tragic loss for the world. One of my first early childhood memories is watching Mork & Mindy reruns. Then growing up seeing comic relief, hook, Aladdin, Mrs. Doubtfire, and coming of age with dead poets society. I was a fan long before I met him and even bigger of a fan after.
"It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived." -George S. Patton

Got rid of my first chicken :(

Warning* disturbing news* ......
My silkie I bought at auction turned out to be a rooster sad.png I asked everyone I know with chickens if they wanted him, called local chicken farms, posted an ad in Craigslist and other chicken forums with no luck so .....
So I got rid of the rooster and by 'got rid of' I mean killed 😢
I had suggestions from non chicken folks to just dump him in a chicken yard. This was not an option because 1) I wouldn't want it done to me and 2) it's my problem not someone else who didn't ask for it. I asked for it by buying him at an auction. And letting it loose in the country as my mom suggested is just as cruel because it could be killed by something else and suffer ....I wanted to do it bloodlessly so I snapped it's neck and let's just say next time I'll probably go the axe method seems to be the quickest. 😢 there aren't words for how I feel. And I knew sharing here would help me get it out. Not to add that before she became a he, it was a very popular bird with friends & family. And my second favorite. But I did pet him beforehand and told him why and said a prayer.

This has not been a good week :(

'I live everyday to be like you'

My Grandmother June is an incredible woman. I'm sure most would say their grandmothers' are the smartest, the strongest, most giving person ever but in my case she absolutely is. She has had one the hardest life's imaginable; not only survived but conquered it all. She lived through breast cancer, had heart attacks without even knowing it, broken bones, and other normal ups and downs for someone in their eighties .... but she also dealt with being widowed early in life and spent most of her years on Earth as a single mother to her two boys but also to her daughter who suffers from cerebral palsy. In a testament to her strength: She refused to put Linda (her daughter) in a facility which was the typical step in 1950s she didn't. And, when her second husband gave her an ultimatum of "put Linda in a 'home' or I'm leaving", she responded by saying "I'll help you pack". Grandma June then continued to raise her sons into men and be 100% sole caregiver to Linda 100% of the time. Her life's mission has been family and no question she's succeeded. Linda who is still alive @55 & has never been treated differently besides her physical limitation is one of the longest living patients of cerebral palsy, is a living example of my grandmother's strength, love & giving and maybe even some stubbornness. Since November Grandma June has managed to hold death atbay but now as she approaches heaven's gate I know her soul will be at peace and she will once again be with her long lost husband and finally get her eternity with him. Charles (my grandfather) is probably sitting at the heaven's gate playing amazing grace on his trumpet for her waiting for her hand once again. Even though earth is losing this special woman to me, in heaven she will gain her wings immediately and be able to soar over her loved ones to comfort our tears and hold us tight just like she likes too. Rest in peace my beloved grandmother and please try not to push too hard from the other side ;) I may live everyday to make my maternal grandparents proud but grandma June I also live everyday to be just like you. Love you forever.
